The Youths are the best they can be
To engage young people, their communities, and relevant stakeholders to develop strategies and address young peoples’ issues.
To improve knowledge and understanding of sexual and reproductive rights among young people as a means of achieving gender equality
BraveHeart Initiative for Youth and Women was initiated by Priscilla Ikos Usiobaifo on August 26th, 2002 as a youth development Club carrying out skills training for youths. On 7th April 2007, it transformed into a youth-led, youth-focused non-governmental organization with a primary focus on skills training and HIV AIDS prevention among youths. In October 2009, it registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as a youth-led, youth-focused community-based NGO empowering and developing young people between the ages of 10 and 25 years through information and skills training to make informed choices, grow into self-actualized adults capable of contributing towards a better society.

- To improve knowledge and understanding of sexual and reproductive rights among young people in as a means of reducing teenage pregnancies
- To promote community awareness on the rights of young people in order to reduce gender inequality.
- To facilitate the recovery of abused children, young persons and women from gender-based violence.
- To partner with like-minded institutions and stakeholders to build the capacity of BHI.
- To empower young persons with skills and information to become active participants in development.
- To promote the practice of feminist principles among young women
As a result of BHI outreach activities, more young people have become assertive and proactive on issues of Gender Based Violence especially rape and sexual harassment. We have noticed an increase in the reports of rape cases as against the culture of silence that was practiced before. BHI has facilitated the recovery of over 30 sexually abused girls.
Young people now have a youth friendly and safe space to clear their doubts on issues of their sexuality as BHI provides them with services and care. We get fulfillment in the behavioural changes in the youth that we have reached. Our evaluation indicates a reduction in unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion among our reached youth.
BraveHeart has been able to deal with the myth on HIV/AIDS and the conservative view on sexuality education and gender disparities in Akoko Edo Local Government, as more positive response is received each day.
BraveHeart Initiative for Youth & Women takes pride in being the pace setter, youth led, organization developing and empowering young people at Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria.
On the 5th of December, 2011 BraveHeart Initiative was awarded as an ANTI-RAPE NGO CHAMPION by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development in Nigeria.
